LAHORE: NATO Commander in Afghanistan John Nicholson said that Pakistan did not increase its efforts and cooperation against terrorist safe havens.
Addressing the media following a meeting of NATO defense ministers, he said, “You’ve heard the public statements from President Trump, from Defence Secretary James Mattis, from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen Joseph Dunford from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, so we are engaging at the very highest levels with the Pakistanis to work together with them against these terrorists that are undermining the stability of the entire region”.
He further said that he acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts against the terrorists attacking the country but wants further cooperation in the war against the terrorists active in Afghanistan.
“The United States has been very clear about the direction we want to go and we hope to see some change in the coming weeks and months,” he added.
James Mattis, in the meeting, said that US government was trying to encourage Pakistan to take action against the terrorists in Afghanistan by offering them incentives and disincentives, adding that it wanted Pakistan to be held accountable.
